For Now

First, the corn – there were about 12 to 14 ears total and only two that were full ears of kernels, the rest had only a few scattered along the cob. I wasn’t really expecting any so it was fun to have something. Lots of different colors on the kernels, blue-black, red, white striped red, white, yellow, typical Indian corn. The chipmunk that lives under the stairs has enjoyed raiding the drying cobs which was probably just as well as there wasn’t enough to do anything with otherwise.

Second, a shawl – I finished a soft, sage green shawl just like the other one. It is for sale (if anyone is interested please feel free to email me for details).

I’ve started the lavender shawl for dayphoto. Not the greatest photo, but it’s only 26 rows in.

I have a white one close to finishing. It’s lovely, soft yarn, acrylic so easy care and will be for sale soon.

Busy hands and paying attention to the patterns is a good thing right now.

Third, I’m still trying to find a job. It would be wonderful to have one, an income certainly would be welcome as things have been beyond tight around here for quite a long time. I can but try, it’s just very discouraging to keep being told I’m “over-qualified” and that the assumption that I would be bored and not do the work is very insulting to me. It would simply be an incentive for me to find a way to do the job better or take on more responsibility. It also would ensure that the job given me would not have to be worried about, it would be done by a person who is genuinely interested in giving the effort for the pay received even if the job is deadly dull, I don’t have to like it, I don’t have to have tons of fun doing it, but do it I would and take my enjoyment after I finish the task that I did the best of it I could.

The shawl is coming along fine. I’m rewriting my resume (again). I’m praying for a job, don’t want to lose my possessions for lack of an income.
Blessings,
Aquila

You’re more than welcome. I’m delighted that it showed up a day earlier than estimated and that you’re so happy with it. Every stitch a prayer, every bead is too. Thank you for your help, your prayers and your beautiful blog. Give Boomer a nice treat and tell him Smoky says hi.

That is the most beautiful shawl you made for Linda I have seen It looks so intricate and like a great deal of work and concentration. I do hope you are able to find work. The statistics say it’s getting better but experience says no. It took my daughter 2 1/2 years to get off unemployment before 2012. Now my son has been unemployed for 2 years. He’s not even looking anymore. Overqualified and too old. Not even 50 yet. He’s trying to create his own work now.

Thank you. I’ve been knitting, doing genealogy and trying to write to keep my sanity. I’ve been looking for work since my business closed at the end of April 2009. The economic crash did major damage to our customer base, it was a niche in the first place but when better than 85% of your regular customers lost jobs, had doors locked when they showed up to work, had to try and manage with part time jobs or unemployment, they only buy things that are absolutely necessary. I got the overqualified crap too, as I see it that just means the employer doesn’t have to worry that the job will be done right the first time, they hand you that so they don’t have to pay you what you’re worth. I’d take over qualified any day, it means you’ve learned that you can talk it out with your boss if necessary (assuming your boss has a nickel’s worth of sense of course). I’ve been trying too to come up with another business, not an easy thing to do with nothing to fall back on. I’ll keep him in my prayers.
The shawl pattern is surprisingly easy to work, and shocker, it was a combination of 2 patterns, one of them free.

I don’t knit so it all looks hard to me. Finding work now is more like creating a job. I’m unable to work so I’m trying to find a way to bring in some extra income so I understand the panic. I’ll keep you in my prayers as well.

I forgot to thank you for following in my last comment. A little discombobulated these days.
